Purple heart wood pendant - I was in the off-cut bin [010-0030]

This is a lovely piece of purple heart wood in a simple pendant. The longer sides are much darker as they show the end grain. It’s surprisingly heavy for such a small piece of wood.

The pendant is trapezoid, roughly 5cm x 3cm (at the base) and 0.6cm thick. The necklace is adjustable from around 30 - 80 cm using simple sterling silver crimp ends (the equivalent of sliding knots).

This purple heart wood is an off-cut from a circular “blank” used for wood turning. There is a timber merchant (and much more) called Yandles in Somerset and their timber store is full of an amazing variety of wood. They have big bins of off-cuts so as little as possible is wasted. All their exotic wood can be traced back to the source which is important to me.
